Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                                                        Last Week

P2 Character Strength-Love of Learning-You master new skills on your own and at school.


It was SO great to be together again as we begin 2023! It sounds like the break was a good one for y'all. We enjoyed sharing stories of travels, family, cold weather (and then, not so cold) and fun. 


Your child's Pattern books came home on Wednesday. Please encourage him/her to read each to you. I would love to hear of more Pattern books being written at home. We can say with complete honesty that each student has become an author and illustrator. Writing is so empowering!ult 


Our next writing unit is Personal Narratives. This unit is a bit more challenging as we learn to tell our story through small moments in our lives.

Snack and Leaders


Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

P2 Character Strength-Perspective-You can imagine how someone else feels.


No School for students on Monday, 1/16 due to Martin Luther King Day.

Next week we will begin our mid-year NWEA assessments. My plan is to administer the Reading on Thursday morning and Math on Monday (1/23) morning.


We will go Ice Skating on Friday, January 20th, leaving Brown at 11:05 and returning by 12:35 for lunch. Please sign up to help with skates and skating if you are able. Our class will share the ice with Mrs. Mishler's 4th grade class. This has become a yearly tradition for us at Brown. There are plenty of skating aides for the children to hold on to as they skate if needed.

   Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                               Last Week The highlight of our week was definitely our Fun Run Celebration on Friday! It was an absolutely beautiful day and we have SO much fun! Thanks go out to all the families for your generous giving of your time, talent and resources to make this all happen. It was amazing!!! It was fun being mix-matched on Monday. I was sorry to miss Crazy Hair Day on Wednesday. I hear we had some great hair styles. Friday was loads of fun for all as we celebrated Bucks for Brown. Thank you again for your generosity in supporting all the "extra things" we all enjoy through our wonderful PTO.   Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa      Last Week A few of the 100th day projects came in last week. All are due tomorrow, February 13th as we  celebrate becoming 100 days Smarter this year. All students will do a short "oral report" of their project for the class. Thank you for your help with this learning opportunity for your child.  Please let me know if you need another copy of our classmate names/numbers for Valentines. I am happy to send another copy home. Any questions, please ask.  Our student council is excited to report that Brown School raised $2742.54 this past week to support St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  What an amazing testament to the generosity and giving spirit that permeates our building.  Thank you for your participation for this very worthy cause.   Please be sure your child has adequate outdoor gear each day. Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                                                          Last Week The information for the 100th Day Project went home on Friday. This is a fun activity for our kindergartners that shows how much 100 is in a real way. It can be as simple as 100 beans, pieces of pasta, etc. Please help guide your child with this, but allow him/her to do most of the work. Particularly the counting. Counting 10 groups of 10 is the easiest way for kindergartners to do this. Doing the projects for the students tells them that you don't think they can do a good enough job.
