Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Last Week

The highlight of our week was definitely our Fun Run Celebration on Friday! It was an absolutely beautiful day and we have SO much fun! Thanks go out to all the families for your generous giving of your time, talent and resources to make this all happen. It was amazing!!!

It was fun being mix-matched on Monday. I was sorry to miss Crazy Hair Day on Wednesday. I hear we had some great hair styles. Friday was loads of fun for all as we celebrated Bucks for Brown. Thank you again for your generosity in supporting all the "extra things" we all enjoy through our wonderful PTO.

It is always fun seeing so many Brown School families at our Donuts with your Special Person event. It makes me smile to see all the chocolate faces that come through our classroom door in the morning. Thank you for taking the time to attend with your child. It creates sweet memories.

I hope all have been reading, "With My Family" and working on our first set of sight words often. If they are learned as they are assigned, it is much easier to be confident with all 56 by the end of the year.

Last week we had our first Reader’s Theater unit in Language Arts. The children learned to read "With My Family"

through sight word work and choral reading (reading together several times). The book came home on Friday, 10/21. Please

keep this and subsequent others in a safe spot so your child can read them often. Every 3 weeks your child will add to his/her library of books he/she can read from our ELA curriculum. Additional books will come home as well from time to time. Then read, read, read!!

The children’s October Book-It forms are beginning to come in. (they are on the back of our homework calendars) Great job reading at home! Once I get the completed form, I will send it back with a certificate for a free pizza from Pizza Hut. Please be sure that your child’s name is on the bottom of the Book-It form.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week 

School pictures came home on Thursday! This was an exciting event and we all loved ohhhing and ahhhing at each one.

Tuesday, 11/1 is our Picture retake day. If you would like retakes for your child, please return your complete photo package

by Tuesday. Also, anyone absent on our first picture day will have photos taken on this day.

Thursday, October 27th is Pajamas Day as part of reaching our Bucks for Brown goal. These are some of my favorite days!

On Friday expect a fun home activity in your child’s folder. As Thanksgiving approaches we would love to see some creativity in disguising a turkey. Please return by 11/11.

Our next Guest Reader, Mrs. Hagarbome, will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 26th. Please bring

2-3 books with you to read. There are many open dates on the schedule. Please find one that works for you on the Guest

reader document I have shared with you. (If you can’t find it, please ask) DeLapa Guest Readers

Please, please label your child's outdoor clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. I have another hooded sweatshirt in

our room that seems to belong to none of our students. If you are missing one, please remind your child that it is

probably at school.

Upcoming Events

Our Fall Festival will be on Monday, October 31st.

Mr. Rommel will kiss Harold, the pig on November 2nd. We can't wait to see this!!!

Just a reminder that, next Thursday and Friday, 11/10 and 11/11, will be ½ days for conferences.

I will send out a conference sign up sheet next week. You may choose the date and time that works best for you. I look forward

to meeting with each of you.

Monday, November 14th will be our 50th Day Celebration. The committee will be contacted soon. I have all the supplies except the snack items. How can it almost be our 50th day already??

Monday, November 14th will also be our Brown School Thanksgiving luncheon.  This is a great time for us to all eat together and consider all we are thankful for. This is for the students only, but be on the look out for requests for volunteers. Many are needed for this event☺.

We also have a ½ day on Friday, November 18th as we finish our 1st trimester.

Our Thanksgiving break is Wednesday, 11/24 through Friday, 11/26.
