Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                                                        Last Week

The information for the 100th Day Project went home on Friday. This is a fun activity for our kindergartners that shows how much 100 is in a real way. It can be as simple as 100 beans, pieces of pasta, etc. Please help guide your child with this, but allow him/her to do most of the work. Particularly the counting. Counting 10 groups of 10 is the easiest way for kindergartners to do this. Doing the projects for the students tells them that you don't think they can do a good enough job. Each of them is able to do a great, kindergarten job. Projects may be brought to school as early as Thurs. 2/9. We will celebrate our 100th day on Monday 2/13!!

If you would like your child to exchange valentines, be sure to use the sheet of names and numbers I sent home on Friday. It is important that these labels are used so the children are able to match them to their classmates Valentines bag (We will make these at school this week). I have extra name sheets if you need another one. 

The 4th grade program was great on Wednesday! Be sure to ask your child about it. The 4th graders learn how to play drums each year. I have to say, it is impressive to see/hear all those students playing well and in unison.

It is very important that your child brings a pair of shoes to change into while inside. You are welcomed and encouraged to leave a pair of shoes at school. Wet boots on our rug make it difficult for us to keep it dry for sitting on during group time.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week 

Our Positivity Project trait is Love. You value close relationships with others and being close to people.

Next week we will have our next Readers' Theater book, "At School." We will continue to learn how to make connections and inferences. With each Readers' Theater we learn more sight words. The kindergarten team has decided to send the remainder of our sight words home this week. Several of our students are ready for more and all will be assessed on them the last full week of February. Please work on these daily. 

If any of you may have misplaced the other sight words I have sent, please let me know. I very much want each student to have a full set for practice. I will be happy to send a full set home. 

Our next Guest Reader will be Mrs. Bray on Wednesday, 2/8 arriving at 3:15. Please bring 2-3 books with you to share with the class. We can't wait!

Wednesday is Count Day.

Our Student Council has planned a fund raising event benefitting St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Please see the schedule below for dress up days and donation opportunities. 

We want to share with you a great opportunity that we have where that we can help other kids JUST LIKE US who are struggling right now with cancer.

The Student Council is holding a fundraiser for the Kids at Saint Jude's Hospital.  Since we are thinking that we can help change their situation by giving, we are calling this fundraiser (are you ready for this?): 

BE THE CHANGE.

We are going to use our CHANGE to make the CHANGE!!  We will be collecting change for one whole week, starting in one week.  We will do this leading up to Valentine’s Day, and send our collection to St. Jude’s as our act of kindness in honor of that day.  

The change drive will start on Monday, February 6th and run every day next week.  So round up all of the loose change in your whole house!!  Our days will look like this:

MONDAY:  PENNY Pride:  Dress in Saint Joe Gear

(collecting as many pennies as you have!!)

TUESDAY:    NICKEL Night Time:  Dress in PJ’s

(Collecting as many nickels as you have)

WEDNESDAY:   DUOs and DIMES:  Twin dress with a friend!

(Collecting as many dimes as you have)

THURSDAY:   Kindness Quotes and QUARTERS: Wear your clothing that has kindness quotes on it!

(Collecting as many quarters as you have)

FRIDAY:    BUCKS for the BEACH:  Dress for the beach!

(Beach hats, cool shorts over leggings, hawaiian shirts over sweatshirts, etc. )

(ALL the dollar bills!!)
