Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Last Week

Last week during Daily 5, we focused on Analyzing Story Elements, Synthesizing and Summarizing text. After reading a story with your child, discuss the main characters, main idea, setting, problem and solution (for fiction stories). Ask your child to retell the story to check for understanding too.


I hope the Gingerbread Houses made it home in 1 piece (I know that is a lofty goal). We had lots of fun making them together. Thank you to all the parents who made this possible for us in the way of donating items and helping with the event.

Snack and Leaders


Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Here is the Spirit Week schedule for the week. No pressure to participate unless your child would like to. These days are big fun!

I will be away tomorrow, 12/19, taking my husband to U or C for treatment. Mrs. Baum will be our Guest Teacher. The class enjoyed her and were happy to hear that she would be with them.

Our January calendars will come home with your child on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Our Holiday Party is on Thursday, 12/22. Our committee is planning a fun event for our kiddos. We will then say good-bye to each other until next year. 😉


Our Holiday break is 12/23-1/8.

It was an absolutely beautiful day and we have SO much fun! Thanks go out to all the families for your generous giving of your time, talent and resources to make this all happen. It was amazing!!! It was fun being mix-matched on Monday. I was sorry to miss Crazy Hair Day on Wednesday. I hear we had some great hair styles. Friday was loads of fun for all as we celebrated Bucks for Brown. Thank you again for your generosity in supporting all the "extra things" we all enjoy through our wonderful PTO.   Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa      Last Week A few of the 100th day projects came in last week. All are due tomorrow, February 13th as we  celebrate becoming 100 days Smarter this year. All students will do a short "oral report" of their project for the class. Thank you for your help with this learning opportunity for your child.  Please let me know if you need another copy of our classmate names/numbers for Valentines. I am happy to send another copy home. Any questions, please ask.  Our student council is excited to report that Brown School raised $2742.54 this past week to support St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  What an amazing testament to the generosity and giving spirit that permeates our building.  Thank you for your participation for this very worthy cause.   Please be sure your child has adequate outdoor gear each day. Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                                                          Last Week The information for the 100th Day Project went home on Friday. This is a fun activity for our kindergartners that shows how much 100 is in a real way. It can be as simple as 100 beans, pieces of pasta, etc. Please help guide your child with this, but allow him/her to do most of the work. Particularly the counting. Counting 10 groups of 10 is the easiest way for kindergartners to do this. Doing the projects for the students tells them that you don't think they can do a good enough job.
