Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa
Last Week
After reading a story to your child, ask him/her to identify the main idea for you. Once that is established, see how many details he/she can list for you. You might even ask if the book is fiction or nonfiction. You may be surprised at how much your kindergartner can tell you.
Just a reminder that the students must wear gym shoes each Friday. Even on 1/2 days, we will have gym class.
Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@sjschools.org) with any questions you may have regarding any of our
“kindergarten stuff.”
Snack and Leaders
Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

We now have 23 children in our class.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!
We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day. Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week
Tuesday morning is our trip to Dinges Farm. As of right now, the weather looks perfect! Please be sure to dress you child for the weather (which may include boots). We will still go if it is drizzling, but hopefully that won't be the case. The cost for students is covered, but parents will be charged $5. We will meet you there around 9:15 am Thank you for adhering to the schedule.
Next week we will continue to work on the skills of identifying main idea and supporting details using the book, What Are Some Rules At Home? Ask your child if the rules we are reading about in school are the same as some you have at home.
Our next Guest Reader, Mr. Hirst, will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 12th. Please bring
2-3 books with you to read. There are many open dates on the schedule. Please find one that works for you on the Guest
reader document I have shared with you. (If you can’t find it, please ask) DeLapa Guest Readers
Thursday and Friday are 1/2 days due to conferences. As I mentioned last week, the kindergarten teachers are doing our conferences a few weeks later for the most part. Dismissal is 12:09, but kindergarten will be out by 12:05.
I have seen some nice improvement in the coat department. Thank you for spending time on this important skill
with your child. It is one of those benchmarks the children are proud to master.
Upcoming Events
Our Fall Festival will be on Monday, October 31st. Our committee will get started soon. The children may wear costumes to school the day of the party (this is different from other years). Be sure to keep in mind your child's ability to use the restroom throughout the day in his/her chosen costume. Please keep all of our Kindergartners in mind when choosing the costume for your child. There should be no costumes worn that might scare the children. Let’s keep our wholesome environment in mind and be sure all are comfortable and able to enjoy the day. If you have any question about your choice, please ask. The kindergarten classes will not be participating in the Halloween parade. We have found that some of the costumes can be scary and we can look forward to more time for our party ☺.
