Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Last Week

What a fun week it has been! Mileage Club on M, W and F has been great. The children are so happy to get their foot charms each day. Our class kind of has a target on our backs because we won the prize for the most laps in K-2 classes last year. That has certainly motivated many to get in as many laps as possible during the lunch recess time. The winning class gets to keep a traveling trophy in their classroom AND have an ice cream treat. 😋

For all who have submitted a volunteer sheet, the volunteer list for trips and parties was sent to you last week.

Please let me know if you did not receive it or if your contact info is incorrect. Also, let me know if you can no longer help

for an assigned event.Thank you for your willingness to help.

During Daily 5, our language arts time, we are learning to identify the main idea and supporting details of a story. See if

your child can identify these things in a story read at home. I think you will be surprised.

In Science for the Weather Watching unit we will talk about how the weather changes with the seasons. We will use what the weather is like on their birthdays to make this point clear to them. We use Mystery Science as a curriculum. We all love it!

We had one of our SJHS varsity football players as a guest reader on Friday afternoon. Cooper Trumbley, who is a senior this year, did a great job with our kiddos. He read a fun book and answered many questions. Cooper was one of my first kindergartners at SJ. 💙💛 The players come to the elementary schools on weeks they have home games. It is fun that our kinders will get to know him over this time. The football guys are pretty much celebrities you know. 🏈 It is so great and we all love this time.

Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@sjschools.org) with any questions you may have regarding any of our

“kindergarten stuff.”

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week

Next week we will begin to work on the skills of identifying main idea and supporting details during our Language Arts block. As you read at home, ask your child about these things. You may be surprised at what they know. The students

should be able to tell who the characters are and the setting of the story too.

We have ½ days on Thursday and Friday, 10/13 and 14, due to parent teacher conferences. Dismissal time is 12:09. Our kindergarten team decided that we would schedule our conferences during the November 1/2 days for conferences. We find with another month of school under our belts, we know the children better and have more to discuss. I will send a sign up sheet in a couple of weeks. Of course, if you would like to meet before then I would be happy to schedule one.

Our first Guest Reader, Mrs. Hagarbome will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 12th. Please bring

2-3 books with you to read. There are many open dates on the schedule. Please find one that works for you on the Guest

reader document I have shared with you. (If you can’t find it, please ask) DeLapa Guest Readers

Please continue to work on pulling jacket sleeves right side out and zipping. The boys and girls feel so good about

themselves when they can do these things independently. A couple quick sessions, and they will have it! Several children

need to work on putting on and taking off their Art Shirts. Please practice this at home as well. Thank you.

Upcoming Events

Our first field trip to Dinges Farm will be Tuesday, October 11. I will send an email to those coming to Dinges with us.

Please join me in hoping for a beautiful fall day for our trip. More on this in next week's blog.

Our Fall Festival will be on Monday, October 31st. The children may wear costumes that day for the party. Please

keep all of our Kindergartners in mind when choosing the costume for your child. There should be no costumes worn that

might scare the children or masks worn. Let’s keep our wholesome environment in mind and be sure all are comfortable and

able to enjoy the day. If you have any questions about your choice, please ask.

Picture retakes are November 1.
